A bit about me

Hi I'm Rita. I'm from Ireland, from the magical region of Donegal. I moved to France in 2016 to work in language education in Alsace, and 9 years later still find myself here in this very pleasant corner of the world where France, Switzerland and Germany meet.

I started practicing yoga in 2014, joining classes for free in exchange for being treasurer for the university's yoga society. How such a simple act can change the course of a lifetime.  And while I continued on my path in pedagogy, the arena in which I was teaching turned from languages in schools to yoga in studios.

I completed a 200hr TTC in 2021 and started giving Vinyasa classes straight away. While I've participated in more training courses since then, it has been in my personal practice, which is based in Ashtanga yoga, that I've learned the most about yoga. Between 2024 and 2025 I spent 5 months in Mysore India, practicing Ashtanga yoga under Sri Chidananda (asana) and Sri Venkateshaiah (pranayama). During this time I also studied under other teachers who have been instrumental in helping me define my yogic practice as it is today, most notably R. Chandraprakesh (Kurma Shala).

There are few practices in my life that have endured like yoga has. The foundations of my practice are in Ashtanga yoga, while I take great inspiration for my classes from the Vinyasa flow style and from functional mobility. In sharing yoga, there are 2 aspects that guide me. The first aspect is guiding students to find the foundations of their movement in the breath, to build strength and mobility, and to regulate the nervous system. The second, slightly more nuanced aspect, is to instil a sense of curiosity in the self/Self, to be open to exploring the vast realm that exists in each one of us, in the knowledge that understanding oneself better will lead to greater peace and release.

Hopefully this has given you a better insight into me and my teaching as it stands at this current moment. If you’d like to know me better, you can check out my Instagram or you can drop me a message via the contact form :)

As of Autumn 2025, I give classes in Studio 7 Hésingue, France and Volta Yoga Basel, Switzerland, hosting retreats from time to time when the opportunity arises to do so, ideally pairing these retreats with extraordinary places and dear friends as co-hosts. If you're interested in finding out more about the classes I offer please don't hesitate to send me a message, I absolutely love talking about yoga :)
